June 12th: Group Dynamics

With our group project coming up at the end of the week, I think it is appropriate that a few of the articles within this module are about group dynamics and development. Before reading "Group Dynamics," I didn't really realize how many groups I could classify myself as being a part of. If someone were to ask me prior to reading this what groups I am in, I would have a brief answer that included my friend group, my sorority, and the clubs I am in, when really there can be several more answers to this question. When I think of a group of people, I think of around 3-4 people minimum but this article actually says a group can be a minimum of two or more. This was surprising to me because when I think of two people, I think of a couple, not a group. Overall there was a lot of good information within this article that helped me better understand group dynamics.

  1. Thank you for pointing out the importance of reading this articles before participating in the group project. I think that is a very good idea. After reading the first couple articles for the week, I learned a lot about group interaction and what works best. Especially for an online collaboration, group members need to participate and give their ideas in order to create a diverse project that includes everyones work. I think it's important to read the article, What Really Makes Teams Work, before participating in the group project so we don't forget how to work online efficiently.

  2. I truly enjoyed your blog post on the "Group Dynamics" article. I thought these couple of article with the set focuses group collaboration was an appropriate fit for this week especially for the reasoning of this group project that's due this Sunday. I have personally always been a lover of group collaboration mainly for the reasoning that I just find collaborating with others a lot more effective. I definitely thought this article did a fantastic job on making a point to each important need to know collaboration dynamic.

  3. Sarah,
I too thought the timing of this article was very appropriate given our group projects were due in the same week. The article had many things to point out but what caught my attention as it did yours was that two people could make a group. I would have said it had to more participants and two is not enough to create dynamics. Two to me is just a straight forward discussion where each of us has an opinion. I do not think it creates enough interaction. Dynamics with two can be manipulated. I might be strong in my opinion than you. But with three or more there are better dynamics for a discussion.
