June 23rd: Smart Leaders and the Power of Collaboration

Inspired by the article I read yesterday about the Wright brothers and collaboration, I found another article titled "Smart Leaders and the Power of Collaboration." This article was on the Forbes website, so I was interested to read it. This author opens the article with the powerful statement, "collaboration is the keystone of leadership success." Throughout the article, she argues the necessity of collaboration, and why we must do it. She highlights on some "leadership failures" due to the lack of collaboration. I think a lot of people are scared of the idea of collaboration but she does a great job arguing why people should put that fear behind them. I love her statement that "collaboration isn't about being best friends, or even necessarily liking everyone you're working with. It's about putting all baggage aside, bringing your best self to the table, and focusing on the common goal." She then asks the reader if they are still not sold on collaboration to make a list of 5 items they cannot live with out. "Every single thing on that list was the product of a successful team collaboration." This article was definitely inspiring to me. Check it out here:

  1. Sarah,
I found your blog post to be insightful and the article you chose to be very interesting. I completely agree that collaboration in both a professional setting as well as in life in general is necessary to be successful. It allows everyone to gain different perspectives as well as forms a sense of community which is very important in my opinion. I appreciate how the article emphasizes that everything you cannot live without was created through collaboration and teamwork. Do you believe that everything important in the world was created by a group of people, rather than just one person? Great work!

  2. I think lack of collaboration can really effect how things turn out because if you use your own head and thoughts to create something, you only had your opinion throughout the whole thing. By getting ideas and thoughts from other people, you may find better ways to do things or even find someone who has a great idea that you can collaborate with.
