June 26th: Humans are Underrated

Today I watched the YouTube video, “The Future of Work – Geoff Colvin: Robots Rising but Humans are Underrated.” I thought this video was truly fascinating. It highlights on the fact that with technology evolving at such a rapid pace, computers and robots are now performing jobs that humans were once responsible for. It also highlights on the fact that while we have all these computers and robots that are capable of so much, humans are underrated, and human interaction will become vital. I think it is rather scary that computers have taken over so many jobs that people once had. This worries me for the future and makes me wonder what jobs will even be available for humans to do, and how people will continue to make money. Even the modern concept of taking an Uber is rapidly evolving. Uber has become a form of work and income for many people within the past few years as the company has grown, but now they are creating self-driving Uber cars. They are testing them here in Tempe, so I see quite a few on my drive to work each day. What jobs do you think will be left for humans in the future?

  1. Sarah,
I really liked your blog post because you explained the details of the video clearly. I watched the YouTube video as well and it gave me a better understanding as to how our world has drastically changed and will continue to evolve into a place where technology is constantly surrounding us. I think that there will be jobs for humans in the future, but they will be different from what they are today. For instance, I believe that there will be more technology based jobs such as humans creating as well as fixing robots.

  2. I do find it scary that robots are replacing people. This makes me think of the movie Wall-E at the end where they show how people were fat and lazy and robots and technology did everything for them and I feel that that is what is going to eventually happen. Obesity is already a big problem in the United States and I think that the more that robots will start doing for people, the more lazy they will be. I think that even though they say that people will still have jobs, it will not be enough to sustain the economy.
