June 28th: The Empathy Deficit

Today I read the article, "The Empathy Deficit." This article intrigued me as it stated that is has been found that college students these days have less empathy for one another than they did back in 1979. You would think with how connected we are, the empathy and friendships would grow. This makes me really think about what the root of this is. I can understand their point when they say we are over aware of our friends whereabouts and what they are up to etc that we don't pay attention to the world around us which could lead to lack of empathy, but this concept is still strange to me. One thing I also began to wonder is how they even measured something like this. This article does not discuss the study at all in terms of how they researched and observed this pattern. It makes me think if it is even reliable.
