June 6th: Collaborative Rhythms
Today I read the article, "Collaborative Rhythms." This article provides numerous significant examples that display the complexity of temporal dynamics when studying collaboration specifically in both ecology and the earth sciences. I found this article to be very intriguing because this is a concept of collaboration I have never thought about before. Before starting this course, I can safely say that I thought of the word "collaboration" in a different light, and much less complex. Just reading different articles that discuss how in depth this topic can go have opened my eyes to seeing the bigger picture of collaboration. I have also come to realize that many people have a misconception of what collaboration means. This has surprised me because I have never thought of collaboration as a confusing concept. "Collaborative Rhythms" was also interesting because I learned about how scientific work is organized by four separate rhythms, and that collaboration plays one of the largest roles. This is something I did not know beforehand.
I agree with you completely and I also had never thought about collaboration in this sense before. For this reason, it was very interesting to read. The examples of each type of collaborative rhythm such as phenomenal and infrastructural definitely helped me understand how collaboration is applied to daily life, and has been for so long already. I also agree with you that there are many depths to “collaboration” and I am happy to be taking this course and able to learn all the different types of collaborative activities.
